S[wim] (2016) for three pianists, one piano

duration: ca 4'00''

The title is an allusion to the well-known saying 'Sink or swim'. Depending on the circumstances of the performance, playing this in public can either feel like sinking or swimming. The impetus for the composition of this piece was simply my love for chamber music.

Literature for three pianists is as rare as practice rooms in a music institution during peak hours. If three pianists could practice in the same practice room on the same instrument, this piece may be a cheeky impression of what that would sound like. I hope this piece enriches the literature and widens the horizons of chamber music for pianists.

S[wim] was premiered by my colleagues Suyeon Choi, Xianzi He and myself on the 22nd of May 2017.
